Healthy delicious yogurt popsicles for babies and kids.

This recipe came about when I had a sweet tooth one evening and didn’t want to go for the tub of ice cream. Looked in my fridge and I had yogurt, ground fresh walnuts, maple syrup, and hemp hearts staring right at me. So, what did I do? I added it all into a bowl, mixed it, and tried it and wow it was unbelievably good! So of course, my next thought was how do I convert this amazing yogurt bowl into a kid’s and toddler-friendly snack? I pulled out my popsicle mold maker that I use to make mini popsicles and made a new batch of this yogurt mixture and placed them into my molds and froze overnight. The moment of truth was snack time, I offered these colorful pops, and they were certainly intrigued, they tried and asked for seconds. I call this a success!

Details:

It is a frozen yogurt popsicle – 4 ingredient summer snack that has some texture, sweetness, and more protein than you would get in your typical popsicle. They are little so you may experience a request for a second 😊. What is great about these pops is that they are quick to assemble, the hard part is waiting for them to freeze, I would wait about 3 hours before you and your kids can indulge in this healthy snack. What is also fun about these is that you can add fruits, other nuts, and seeds if they are grounded.

What you will need:

Just 5 ingredients to make these delicious yogurt pops but you also have the option of adding a few more or changing up some of the ingredients to make them suitable for your family. 1 cup of yogurt, 1 ½ tablespoon maple syrup to sweeten, 1 tablespoon ground fresh walnuts, and 1 tablespoon hemp hearts.

  • Yogurt base – I used full fat (3.8%) plain yogurt. You can use Greek, vanilla or fruit flavors, but I find it too sweet when you opt for anything other than plain. If your kids have a dairy allergy or living a vegan lifestyle, you can use vegan yogurts that will work just as well.
  • To sweeten these yogurt pops, we use maple syrup. You can swap for honey (be mindful for kids under 1 year of age). I use about 1-2 tablespoons since I use plain yogurt. If you are using a flavored yogurt, I’d suggest using half the amount of sweetener.
  • Ground walnuts – The ground walnuts in this yogurt pop adds great crunch and added protein also gives great flavor.
  • Hemp hearts – provides additional protein and omega-3, I also really enjoy the earthy taste it gives the yogurt pop.
  • Adding fruit to the yogurt pops. I love to add in mashed raspberries for some tartness. But I also have done mango versions, blueberries, kiwi works great, and banana is usually a hit. Really any fruit your kids are into and that you have on hand can be added here.
  •  Additional mix-ins can include chia seeds, flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other nuts. Be sure to grind these items before adding to yogurt.

  Pro Tips and Tricks:

  • If your kids have food allergies or sensitivities to dairy or nut products, you can use the substitutions I suggested above. They are equally delicious and can be enjoyed by all.
  • Yogurt alternatives: Greek yogurt, coconut yogurt, flavored yogurt.
  • You can use any popsicle molds you have on hand, but measurements may be different. You can always eat the leftovers since it’s such a delicious yogurt bowl 😉
  • Great for babies who are teething. The cold popsicle can help soothe their gum pain. Be mindful of any allergies before serving for the first time.
  • Blend fruit with the rest of the ingredients to make a high-protein fruit popsicle.
  • Can be in the freezer for up to 1 month.
  • I have ground walnuts in my fridge in a sealed glass container which I use for many oat bowls and fruit bowls alike. Blending up a batch and storing it in your fridge can save you lots of time and keeps fresh long.
Option to add diced or mashed fruits to these delicious popsicles.

Make this yogurt nut pops your own and the regular healthy summer snack. Change up the mix-in and flavors. I am always happy to serve my family snacks that are as nutritious as this. Make them and let me know how they are and what changes you made to suit your kids and family. Would love for you to rate this recipe and comment below.
